The dispersion process is key to coloration in plastic applications. Many factors influence dispersing operation, such as operating conditions, equipment, and colorant themselves. Depending on the position you are in the supply chain, a variety of colorant’s form of supply is required to serve different requirements. Pigments and dyes are cost effective for masterbatch compounder. Flexible film producer prefer using masterbatches or color compounds for uniform dispersion purposes.

Color Masterbatches from A. Schulman provide good dispersion with low to no gel defect to flexible film manufacturers. POLYBLAK®, A. Schulman’s black masterbatch, shows better gloss color as well, as claimed by several customers. Thanks to their 40-year old established masterbatch technology which allows wide selection of carbon black concentrates pigment systems, ranging from large to small particle size.

POLYWHITE®, white masterbatch from A. Schulman, is widely used in agricultural film applications, which require high hiding power at low let down ratio (cost saving) and additional UV-stabilizer.

Quality of Pigments can, somehow, influence the plastic properties i.e., shrinkage and warpage. Special requirements such as low shrinkage, low warpage, which normally occur in PE and PP based resins, are fulfilled by high quality pigment in A. Schulman’s masterbatches. The color and carrier base resins can be customized to fit with customer needs and application (for example: cap & closure, plastics pallets, garbage bin, pick-up liner, CD-case, paint pail, battery case, and thick rigid plastics)
